This tutorial is being done on a machine running Windows 8.1 Pro but should also work for all versions of Windows 8.1 and Windows 8. Please note, you can enhance any image in this tutorial by clicking on it.
Tutorial Difficulty: Easy
If you’re anything like me, then you’ve probably done your fair share of tinkering around with Windows, and if you have then you’ve probably lost [unpinned] the very helpful File Explorer icon from the taskbar. And if you haven’t lost it yet, there is the chance you may in the future. Look at the image below and you’ll know what icon I’m referring to.
With your mouse, hover along side the right side of your primary screen and bring up the charms menu. Select the Search option from the list.
In the Search bar you just opened, search “File Explorer” without the quotes.
Once you see the familiar looking icon, simply right click it, and select Pin to taskbar.
Finally, now that the icon is back on the taskbar, simply move it to your desired position. That’s it, you’re done!
Note: All previously pinned folders and location on the File Explorer icon will still remain even if the icon was lost from the taskbar.
